In 1896 Morris's Kelmscott Press published an illustrated edition of The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer, one of the greatest British storytellers, with illustrations provided by Morris's friend Edward Burne-Jones. Depicted in this illustration is a passionate kiss between Troilus and Criseyde, a pair of tragic lovers whose story ended abruptly during the Siege of Troy.
