Brother Rabbit was first produced by William Morris in May 1882 at his Merton Abbey works using the Indigo discharge method of printing. The Brother Rabbit design (also known as Brer Rabbit) was named after a character in the Uncle Remus stories by J.C.Harris (1881) which Morris would read to his young daughters Jenny and May.
